13th Annual Shaffer Crawfish Boil

We have finally put away all the plates, chairs, canopies and tables used at the Crawfish Boil.  It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed seeing everyone this year.  We had a good time, all the food and crawfish were great.  Let's do it all again next year.  Enjoy the pictures.

Muddy Mother's Day!

I celebrated Mother's Day by watching my kids get all muddy and it was fun.  We went to League City for the Lions Club Safari Run.  Between noon and 6 pm every half hour there was a group of people of all ages set to go running through the mud.  Dennis and I decided not to get dirty, but Denise and Brianna didn't hold back.  They sloshed through the mud and water and ended up under the shower of a fireman's hose.  It was so much fun to watch them do the obstacle course and made my day!   Enjoy the pics.

Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival

I finally got the crown I deserve!  I was crowned Queen of the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.  Yeah right!  It is pretty though.  This past weekend Dennis and I ventured over to Louisiana with Denise and Brianna to Breaux Bridge to pass a good time.  We met Dennis' parents, Harv and Sue who drove from Baton Rouge.  It was a lot of fun to go back to this festival that I haven't been to in about 20 years or maybe more.  It has changed quite a bit.  There is a park where the festival is held at now instead of the streets of Breaux Bridge.  It is gated now and there is a cover charge.  The good thing is that parking was close and only $3.00.  We lucked out when we got there and set up our chairs in the shade of a tent courtesy of Ford pickup trucks.  No one was using it and we wanted out of the sun.  Food was really good and plenty.  We did a lot of shopping, there were lots of booths set up with arts, crafts and other things to buy.  The people watching was the best, this couple was having their picture taken by everyone. I hope that this is not Dennis and I when we get older!  The festival is much cleaner than what I remember also.  There is no more stepping on piles of dead crawfish or beer cans everywhere. Proabably because you have to buy the beer there and the crawfish was $15 for 2 lbs.  No more bringing your own cooler full of drinks!  They still had the good cajun bands playing music all day and the dance floors had plenty of room.  All in all we had a great time and hope to make it back to Breaux Bridge again one day.  This was a good way to prepare for our crawfish boil coming up in a couple of weeks.  Hope to see you all there!

12th Shaffer Crawfish Boil

It has come and gone! We had our Crawfish Boil on Satuday and may I say it was one of our best. The crawfish were huge and tasted great. The weather was hot but not a drop of rain was in sight and the wind kept it comfortable despite the humidity. My family made it, minus a few, Orlando, Libby and Gary, but the rest were there including my family from San Antonio. My dad even had his fair share of the crawdads. Dennis' family also made it minus, Josh who had to work and Brad's family in Fargo. It was great seeing them all of course. Thanks goes out to Harv, Greg, Michelle and Rebecca for all their help with setting up, cleaning and serving. We couldn't have pulled it off without them. We truly enjoyed seeing all of our friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow tennis players, and families. Hope you enjoy the pictures and join us again next year!

Out With 2010, In With 2011!

My, my 2010 just flew by. It certainly kept me busy. We look forward to 2011 which will probably be another busy one.
We definitely started this year with a bang, after celebrating New Year's at our good friend's, the Suires we met up with Greg and the kids along with Rhonda at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, TX for the game between Texas A&M and LSU. The new Cowboys stadium is bea-u-ti-ful! We luckily got a free parking space at Humperdinck's where all the LSU fans were and paid $10 a piece to shuttle us to the stadium which was about 2 miles away. Normal parking at the stadium was about $80. Thank God for such good weather or this would have been a nightmare. There were tailgaters everywhere you looked and they all had good food and libations. We walked around the stadium looking at all the festivities, watched the impressive A&M band march in and then found our way to our buddies Greg and Rhonda. They had been there quite a while! Thanks for the food and drinks. Greg and Brenda's kids, Alex and Jackson were with them also. They sure have grown! Everyone tailgating there were Aggie fans, dressed in their maroon and white. But we still had fun, even though we were dressed in purple and gold. The stadium started letting everyone in and we started out for our seats. Once we walked in our jaws dropped like everyone elses when we saw the big screen in front of us. I believe they said there were 83,514 people, some had standing room only tickets. Those tickets are not so bad because no matter where you stood you could still see the game on the big screens. We had seats on the second level on the SEC side and our friends were way over on the other side, even Chuck and Christie were far away on the 4th level. I went once with Dennis to find them and it took forever to get there. I opted to stay in my seat for the game and enjoyed every minute of it. LSU played an outstanding game and showed the Aggies what "Gig 'em" actully means! I hope you enjoy the pics.

My American Girls!

We had such a good time this past weekend in Dallas for Labor Day weekend. Dennis drove over to Austin with his crew to put new siding on Gail and John's house and we headed over to Dallas to visit Gary and Rebecca and also attend a few of Alicia's volleyball tounament games. On our way there we stopped off at Buc-ee's. Everyone and his/her brother was there. Just like everyone else we bought t-shirts, bread, munchies and dinner. It is amazing how many people stop at this place. Their banana nut bread and jalepeno bread are the best. After stuffing ourselves we finally made it to Gary and Rebecca's house for some much needed sleep. Dennis had made it to Alicia's 7:00pm game which they won. He spent a night with her at her house which she shares with two other UTA volleyball players. The next morning Dennis joined us and Rebecca in Ferris and we all went to watch Alicia play her first game of the day. She played very well and they won that match against UTPA. We stopped by to check out Alicia's house. Typical college house near campus for girls, a great place for parties as Alicia puts it. Sometimes girls can be just as messy as boys! We went back to Rebecca and Gary's for something to eat. Gary knows how to grill a good burger. We went back to watch Alicia's next game against Mississippi State. They were really good and UTA unfortunately lost. The next day Dennis left for Austin to go help his guys and us girls met Alicia in Dallas for some shopping. We started off at the American Girl store. What fun we had there amongst all those dolls, their outfits and accessories. We ate lunch at the American Girl Bistro with Brianna's doll, Lanie that she got in New York City. This place was similar to the one in NYC but not as big and the bistro was casual instead of the classy restaurant in NYC. But the experience is the same, all the doll displays and the doll hair salon were there. Brianna bought some new things for Lanie and then we headed out to North Park Mall and Nordstrom Rack for real shopping! We shopped 'til we dropped and had a good time doing it. Thanks to Rebecca for showing us the good places to shop and to Gary and Rebecca for some good food and a place to stay. The kids had a blast in the woods and playing foozball. All in all it was a great Labor Day.

I'm Back!!!!!

Summer is over and the kids are back in school. I think it's time to get back into writing my blog whenever I can. We had a wonderful summer full of fun and adventure in New Braunfels and Canyon Lake for a week, than we took off by train from New Orleans to Washington, DC for a week. The trip didn't stop there, we took a train from there to NYC for another week in the Big Apple and returned to New Orleans by train from there. We really enjoyed both places and plan to return for more adventures some other year. The kids returned last weekend from spending a week with their grandparents in Baton Rouge. What a great time they had, they couldn't stop talking about it. Next year they can go for two weeks! This past weekend we lost one of our dear pets, Cupid the hamster. The kids made a coffin for him and buried him under the fig tree in the back. Now they want to get frogs and a turtle to replace him. Until then we still have Joey the beetle bug and Maxie the beagle. Yesterday was the kids first day of school and they are glad to be back. They are riding bike to and from school and will not be staying for the after school program which means cha-ching for me, no more extra cost for child care. It's like getting a raise!
